Lockheed Martin RFID Format

Lockheed Martin requires suppliers to tag inbound shipments with RFID labels. For Department of Defense (DOD) suppliers this is not a big deal, since Lockheed uses the same RFID tag (96-bit DOD) as the DOD. LMCo prefers the label to be formatted as shown. However, generic labels such as the "Case" label shown below may be used. These are readily available as pre-printed (pre-encoded) labels. MIL-Comply Labeling users may print their own using either the special Lockheed Martin format (Pallet label example) or the Generic RFID format to meet the Lockheed Martin RFID requirement.

As with Wide-Area Workflow, RFID data must be provided to Lockheed Martin prior to the shipment arriving at its destination. Without that data, the RFID tags are useless. Lockheed Martin suppliers may use LMCo's Transportation Management System (TMS). The TMS also produces labels that identify shipment containers by the ASN Number. Suppliers sending numbers of tagged containers should contact Mil-Pac to find out about submitting Advance Shipment Notice EDI transactions to eliminate manual data-entry.

Generic DOD RFID Format

The following excerpt from the Lockheed Martin Packaging, Labeling And Shipping Guidelines (PM-5010J) explain the requirements:

8.1.1 Passive RFID Tag Requirements for Non-IUID Shipments Using TMS

A. Seller must be able to access the LM TMS, to comply with the LM Aero RFID requirement.

B. Seller must affix Passive RFID tags at the Transportation Handling Unit (THU) level for all shipments to LM Aero facilities. THU is defined as the shipping container or outermost box (when multiple boxes are consolidated into one bigger box).

8.1.2 Affixing Passive RFID Tags

A. Seller shall ensure that the data encoded on each passive RFID tag are globally unique (i.e. the tag ID is never repeated or duplicated) and conforms to the requirements specified in the most current version of the United States Department of Defense Suppliers’ Passive RFID Information Guide

B. Seller shall use passive tags that are readable; and

C. Seller shall ensure that the passive tag is affixed at the appropriate location on the specific level of packaging, in accordance with MIL-STD-129P tag placement specifications

8.1.2.1 Data Syntax and Standards

B. If the Seller chooses to employ the DOD identifier, the Seller shall use its previously assigned Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code... If the Seller uses a third-party packaging house to encode its tags, the CAGE code of the third-party packaging house is acceptable.

(There is absolutely no requirement for "Lockheed Martin proprietary data (to be) embedded in chip".)
